Your group is the one I have been looking for! I am having so much trouble with the FTM Master Sources and have also been using the notes section instead. (I am using FTM 2005.)
Here is where I am confused: For census information, what exactly is the correct format for the "Title of Source"? Is there a "correct" way of doing it for FTM? If so, what then goes into the "Citation Page" and the "Citation Text"?
In the "Cite Your Sources" by R.S. Lackey it give this as an example of the way to document a census reference:
1850 U.S. Census (Free Schedule), Newton Co., Miss.: p.403, family 304, dwelling 208, lines 16-18; National Archives Microfilm M-408, Roll 315.
So, does this mean that "1850 U.S. Census (Free Schedule), Newton Co. Miss." goes in the "Title of Source" field, and just the page number goes into the "Citation Page", and the rest goes into the Citation Text; or should the family, dwelling and line numbers go there too?
Important question: Does this mean that every state-and-county combination for each census year is a Master Source?
2. When you document a family, do you enter this Master Source for each "fact" for each person's name, age and birthplace, etc.? (This seems very annoying and repetitous in a printout.)
3. Does anyone have suggestions concerning what options to select for the footnotes and for printing reports?
I know this is a lot, but just can't find a place where this information is given for FTM. I would like to find out how to do this correctly because I have so much now to do over. Thanks to anyone who can give me some guidance. Diane
