will my split branch be linked to the parent tree?

hope someone can help! I have used the wizard to split a branch off my large private parent tree. I want to make it available to family. But I don't want any changes they make to be reflected in my parent tree - is it linked? if so, how can I unlink it so that I have the power to decide what goes in my private parent tree.

Sort or FIlter on the Number of Names

In FTM and Ancestry, a person's name is just a fact, and like any fact, you can alternate facts. I've used this considerably for married women. That way sources point to the name that they were using at the time. I occasionally used this with men too whose went by names quite different than the name they were born with.

Unfortunately, when you save a hint in Ancestry.com, you can either choose to have the source point to the preferred fact, or you can create a new alternate. You cannot pick an existing alternate. This means that I end up creating a number of alternate fact names that are the same. These then need to be cleaned up.

The question is how I find the people that need to be cleaned up. In FTM, I would like to sort the index based on the number of name facts. Alternatively, I would like to filter the index to only show people with more than 2 names. Or even do this with a report, but I haven't been able to figure out how.

Does anyone know a way to sort or filter on the number of a fact?

How to Change Status from Living to Dead in FTM?

Ok, I know how to do it in ancestry.com (quick edit), but I have a few people who are still marked as "living" but are over 100 years old or have no dates. I feel like it must be somewhere and I'm just missing it.

I really would love to be able to make anyone born more than 100 years ago as default dead, as well.

A less than elegant way of finding individuals with multiple name facts is to use a Custom Report, which can be found in the Publish Workspace, under Person Reports.

Open up the Custom Report, and on the right side under Custom Report Options is a tool bar, and on the left is the Items To Include icon. Click that, and an Items To Include pop-up appears, and under the Included Facts Window, just have the Name fact, and on the right side have all the boxes unchecked, and click O.K. Then, when the pop-up clears, select All Individuals, and click Generate Report. You can then right click the Custom Report Preview window, and select a method to edit and save the report.

Does the Family Group Sheet report have an option to enlarge photos?

FTM 2017. The Family Group Sheet report prints small, low resolution thumbnails. FTM 2012 used to print large photos with higher resolution instead of a thumbnail. There are two reports in FTM 2017 that have an option to choose thumbnail or photo but I don't see that option on the Family Group Sheet. The thumbnails make the report look bad. Is there a way to enlarge them?

One can always just enter the word "Deceased" in the date pane and both FTM and Ancestry will know that this person is NOT living.

The "Family Picture" is still there.
If there are media for the selected person, the they (the media) will be listed when you click one "Family Picture".

This is the same process that 2012 used.

I got a surprise today when I used relationship calculator whereupon it showed a male relative as my 5th great grandmother. How could that be when he is shown as a male on my tree and why does it say 4 generations are my father??? This has never happened before - can anyone help?

Thanks! I wish the you could click on people in the report and get taken to that person, but otherwise your solution is very workable.

Either FTM or Ancestry has a tendency to make people trans-gender. I haven't figured out if this comes from a bad sync or if it comes from picking up Find-a-Grave sources. Regardless of the source, check in FTM and on Ancestry to see if there are multiple Sex facts. On Ancestry, delete the ones that you don't want. Or (don't do both), in FTM merge the multiple Sex facts. For some reason, it helps if you change at least one of the sex facts to the opposite sex before you merge, otherwise, I've seen the problem return.

My sister and I want to work together on our geanology. She lives in another city. If I purchase FTM 2017 Family Pack can we have it on both of our computers?

Although your sister is part of your family, she is not in your home, so as I understand it she would need to buy a full FTM2017 licence. Effectively, she is a different user in different location who happens to be working on your tree, just like any other person you've invited to collaborate on your tree.

I think it would be best to contact Software Mackiev and ask them specifically if a Family Pack licence would cover your particular situation, and if so, how you can buy one (I can't seem to find the Family Pack upgrade on the product page linked to from the Q&A page - it shows the upgrades for other products, but not one for FTM): "If you have any questions about Family Packs, please write to us at ftm-orders@mackiev.com"

You are correct that the family pack does not apply in this situation.
If one does wish to by the family pack it is available in the FTM store purchase process, Step 2. The Family Pack is an enhanced License agreement not an actual software product. I just covers the use of the program for more users in the household.

I have FTM V703-01 - I don't find an installation of any kind on bunder of World Family Tree Super Bundle that I have. Can anyone help. I would like to use the disks since I finally found them again.

Thanks. It just seems a bit unhelpful that the FTM Family Pack help page says "to upgrade to a family pack license of that title, please click here", yet doing so takes you to a page that has nothing at all about FTM, not even a comment telling you to go to the FTM purchase page to get the Family Pack upgrade!

Photos from one tree shown in media for a different tree

I have several trees linked to FTM from Ancestry.
I opened FTM a few minutes ago looking for a particular piece of information, opened the media for the tree, and found photographs for a different tree in the media.
This is not just 1 item there are dozens of pictures with the caption of the media that should be there.
See attached screen shot , the photograph in the middle of the 3rd line from top says 1871 census of Canada, when it actually is a photograph taken in 1902 and attached to a different tree.
What to do?
FTM says don't sync which is fine, i don't want to save it now because there are so many errors, it was last saved on 11 June and last backed up 13 April. If i close FTM it will autosave. Help!
I'm scared that the problems/errors will become permanent and if that happens how do i fix it ?
I am planning to contact Mackiev and see if they have any suggestions. I could cross my fingers and hope that it all goes away on it's own, but i suspect this is an Ancestry problem

I contacted Mackiev via live chat, had a 20 minute conversation with a representative, after verifying that the photos are in the correct tree FTM media file and not in the incorrect tree media file, they have referred the problem to their software engineers.
With a promise to get back to me either for more information or with a solution.
