It is now 7th June and there is no Green for syncing in sight? What is the latest news and prognosis. Can someone in the know reply? Thank you.

Anyone else having issues with hints not coming up for people in your tree recently. I know not every person added will have a hint, but I probably worked on 100 people last night and ancestry hints never appeared (sometimes in the past it would take a few seconds). I did get hints from family tree (or whatever the blue box is called). My software shows that it is linked and logged into both ancestry and the other site. Also, the search feature tends to only bring up the blue box search unless I manually type ancestry.com in the internal browser box instead of bringing it up automatically when I click on new search.

Has this tree been synced, as it is a requirement and has been every since 2017 was released?

Oh yeah. It's horrible. No one knows what's going on with FTM. They blame it on Ancestry, but that's funny because as best I can tell, Ancestry works just fine. I can go into Ancestry online at the same time I have FTM open and there will be no leafs for several people. Look up the same people in the Ancestry tree and boom, all kind of Ancestry leaf hints.

Once again, they continually blame their apparent inadequacies on Ancestry. Let me ask this....are ANY of you having any problems doing anything IN Ancestry? I know I'm not. So where is the problem? Seems to me it all points to Mackiev!

I read in another group that if you untick Family Trees (at the bottom of the search screen) this will fix it.
Also, some people are having problems with Family Search and the solution is to make sure you have upgraded FTM2017 to Build 480.

Yes Larry, there are still plenty of ongoing issues with Ancestry - especially with Searches. They said the move to the new infrastructure would be completed by May 31, but the issues are still ongoing. Some can't even log in! Today when I clicked on Ignore in the Hints (on a persons profile) it just flicks me back to the top of the Hint page - I have to Review the Hint and select Yes/Ignore/Maybe from there.

Larry - You clearly don't have a clue what is going on with Ancestry's web site. Try reading the Ancestry Site Comments board.

Larry - If you bothered to read the Ancestry Site Comments board your questions about problems in Ancestry would be answered - there have been and continue to be a lot of widespread issues; Ancestry has posted (on FB, not the board) that they are still working on cleaning up issues from their infrastructure upgrades last month.

To further the point, FTM sync was working very well (and the weather report was normally green) after MacKiev released their update, UNTIL Ancestry started having all of these problems. Then the weather report started showing orange and red.

So think what you want, but the evidence doesn't support your statement.

Since you ask, yes, I DO have severe problems with using Ancestry itself at the moment. Missing hints, "Sorry, hint system unavailable at the moment", "That page is no longer available", the dreaded "Try again later" gold panning photo, and general dreadful performance at times, with no response, blank pages or incomplete menus (due to inaccessible CSS files I expect), and so on and so on. Even this message board itself is patchy, with spurious "unread" orange markers for messages I've already read, and the "reply" icon being replaced by the "previous page" left angle bracket icon at times.

I'm no great friend of SMK but they do seem to be upfront about this situation, and explain clearly why the sync status is still orange in their latest blog update from a few days ago, which you can access easily from the "Help > Family Tree Maker Tech Support" menu option in FTM2017. It says:

"SYNC OUTAGE - Updated June 6
Interruptions in connectivity with Ancestry are continuing but at a much-reduced level. We are now testing the integrity of syncing, during which we are intentionally manually maintaining orange sync weather, even though there would be at least a few hours of green per day if we didn't. Given the scope of changes on Ancestry's side, we will need at least 2-3 days of intensive sync testing to be sure that syncing is safe. Until we complete our testing, the status will remain orange and we continue to encourage you to hold off syncing unless you have a really pressing need to do so."

I've been syncing reliably on orange throughout all of this.

... and if further evidence were needed, after a very long wait for that message to post, refreshing the page just gave me an "error retrieving message"!

I gather Ancestry are upgrading their operation onto a newer and hopefully more powerful server subsystem (Amazon's AWS I think) and that's evidently not gone as smoothly as they (and we) had hoped :-(

Having problems backing up one of my trees to flashdrive with FTM 2012

Hoping someone can tell me what I am doing wrong? I am backing up my trees to a flashdrive before I get new computer so I can reinstall them to it. My smaller trees I have had no problem with, however my main tree is taking hours to backup to the flashdrive ( so I have canceled backup to flash drive). FMT is showing I have over 1800 media items in that tree. Most of these are census records ect. from when I was syncing trees from Ancestry. When I backup the tree to pc after working with tree it only takes a very short amount of time to do it.
Any help greatly appreciated. Please be nice as you can see I am not to literate about this. :) Thanks

How large is this Flash Drive?
How large is the FTM data file and all of it's media?

Also remember that there are two backups, one with and one with out media, and with 1800 media items it will take a long time copy them.
Are trying to send the Back up to the Flash Drive as it is being made, or are just trying to copy the backup file to the flash drive?

Agreed. The Ancestry web site is not working very well, and despite what Ancestry has said, it can lead to data loss. Using the web site alone, I have tried altering source information, only to find that source disappear from the personal data on the web on a person. I've also noticed that when I accept a hint, the hint will move to the accepted tab but it will not be added to the person's data. I've seen this happen multiple times when saving a story or picture hint.

Now before everyone panics about their data, I've have never seen data dropped if I wasn't already touching the data or adding hints. Existing data seems fine.

I just hope that this gets resolved, but I fear I'm out of luck. When FTM said that they were artificially holding the status at Orange a few days ago, I was impatient and sync'ed during Orange. It went fine several times, but then I got a sync error even before the report on the number of changes. I rolled back to a FTM backup and I got the sync error again, so even backing up your FTM database doesn't appear to be protection.

Flash drive is 16G
FTM data file shows 21,348KB
FTM Backup file 2012 (this is in the FTM Documents) shows 6,166,889 KB
Backing up to Flash Drive (removable disk) I also have backed up to the FMT

Est. time on the backup shows over 6 hours. Would it take that long?
Thanks for reply

Assuming you are using USB 2 writing to flash drives is VERY slow. 1GB per hour would not be out of the ball park.

It MIGHT be faster if you backup to your hard disk, then copy the backup file to the USB drive. Some applications write data in ways that aren't as efficient when using flash drives.
