Rosemary/Russ’ comment
“So you can definitely link the media to a source, whether you have a citation or not, although for the life of me I can't see what good it does you.”
Here is an example of what good it does.
1- I create a so-called Exhibit/Media item
2 - I name my Source to be the EXACT same name as the Exhibit/Media item
3 – I then create “Source Attributes” by picking the data off of the Exhibit/Media item
4- I don’t link the Media to the individual events/people in FTM since it would be redundant with the Source Attributes [it/they would be redundant since it/they would be EXACTLY THE SAME as my “Source Attributes”----because the Exhibit/Media name is EXACTLY the same as my Source Name]
Note: I keep my original/master Media/Exhibits in a separate PC folder from the FTM media folder
5- Though I haven’t done it for all my Exhibits/Media items* I then link my Exhibit/Media Item to the FTM media folder and then link the Media item to JUST THE SOURCE
Step 5 gives me the ability to create/run/use a “Media Usage Report”
* I have not done this for very many Exhibit/Media items; just enough to see that it works well. The reason I have not done this for all Exhibits/Media is I am afraid of broken links and/or slowing down my computer. I am awaiting further development of FTM 2012 – anticipating they will make it faster and/or will tighten up the system to minimize broken links
*NB: Since I don’t put any Exhibits/Media/exhibits in the FTM Media Folder in step 4, I then have to put them in via step 5 if I want to get a Media Usage Report [albeit with a lot less total links]
