I can add my own experience to this. I used CTRL+F5 yesterday to download my missing citation media. My ancestry.com is currently inactive, so I was only expecting to get the 1880 census. To my surprise, however, it downloaded a slew of images for various citations that were not the 1880 census, including citations that don't actually have media at Ancestry.com. After FTM finished and I could look at it, I discovered that everything that was downloaded was indeed the 1880 census, but random 1880 census images were attached to random non-1880 source citations.
This is a summary of the errors I've identified from yesterday:
- 72 images of 1880 census were downloaded and attached to source citations that were not for the 1880 census
- 3 were attached to 1850 citations
- 3 were attached to 1860 citations
- 8 were attached to 1900 citations
- 6 were attached to 1910 citations
- 12 were attached to 1920 citations
- 8 were attached to 1930 citations
- 1 to Boston Passenger and Crew lists
- 1 to Directory of Deceased American Physicians
- 1 to Minnesota Death Index (citation should have no media)
- 4 to Minnesota State Census
- 1 to Nebraska State Censu
- 2 to New York Passenger Lists
- 3 to Ohio Deaths (citations should have no media)
- 3 to Social Security Death Index (citations should have no media)
- 1 to US City Directories Beta
- 1 to US Phone and Address Directories (citation should have no media)
- 5 to US Public Records Index (citations should have no media)
- 1 to Utah Military Records
- 1 to Washington Births
- 3 to Wisconsin Deaths
- 4 to Wisconsin State Census
In each case the file was named (as usual) after the record collection. Each of the above images, however, are from the 1880 census.
Other media errors discovered:
- one 1800 census image saved twice
- one 1860 census image saved twice
- one 1870 census image saved three times
(EDIT: Updated total, added newly discovered errors to list above)
