Rosemary,
I use some limited source media. Here are three examples:
- cover of a register book and any special pages that describe the information contained in the book. Many of my Italian registers have pages at the beginning of each book (and sometimes each section) that applies to the whole (or a particular section)
- transcription templates for certain standardized documentation (census records, parish registers, civil register, etc.) as well as related explanatory media. I use the latter for reference when working with materials in languages I do not speak.
- cover and initial pages of passenger manifests that contain information about the ship and voyage
EDIT: spelling
