Your Search returned zero good matches

Searching Ancestry on FTM V2017 23.20.525 no longer produces any searches. this was an issue about 12 months ago but resolved but has now come back.
Removing stories å Publications & Photos & maps no longer works as a get around.

If i Input Ancestry.co.uk manually into the address bar I can get all the data but this is not the way the system i paid for is supposed to work. please resolve urgently, as I know i'm not the only person who has this issue.

Are you sure you have the latest update or did you just make a typo?
FTM 2017 23.20.1524 otherwise known as build 524

I had your problem before but this latest update fixed the search problem, at least, for me.

after about a week of problems, downloading a different version and updates the issue was still there but oddly it has now resolved itself without any changes or input from myself. Strange.

FTM crashing to Windows desktop when I attempt to add media

I've used FTM for a lot of years but this is a new one for me. Since the last update whenever I hit the button to add new media to an individuals file FTM exits to the Windows Desktop. I can add pictures / media online through Ancestry and then sync without any problems. I can also make typed changes to my FTM file and sync up to Ancestry without any issues. Only the add media is effected. Unfortunately working offline then syncing is my preferred mode. Anyone else experiencing this?

It sounds like you are trying to add the new media in the People Workspace and failing. Have you tried adding the new media in the Media Workspace, and then assigning it to the appropriate person and their facts?

Also double-check the size of the file and the media type. FTM can handle larger size files than an Ancestry Member Online Tree but both have some limitations on what they accept.

I'm not sure of a specific media file size limitation for FTM but the LiveChat over at mackiev.com might be able to let you know.

Color column in the Index panel under the People tab

Has anyone discovered a way to remove the Color column in the Index panel under the People tab? I have no need to color code. It's annoying. Before I report this to FTM, I'd like to know of any found remedy. Using the cursor to remove the column provides only small relief from this annoyance.

Just tried your suggestion but the same thing happens there too. I hit the add new media button and a new window is opened to browse for the media on my drives but then after a few seconds FTM simply shuts down and sends me to the windows desktop. I am not able to make any selections while the browse window is open.

Good Suggestion, Unfortunately I'm not trying to upload anything out of the ordinary file size. Just regular pictures and document scans. I already have over 600 media items attached to my tree. So I know that I'm simply doing what i've been doing for years with FTM.

I'm assuming you are doing this why FTM is online. Can you try loading new media when FTM is off line, but the computer remains online (from the File drop down); and when the computer is off line, i.e. airplane mode, or pull the ethernet cable or phone line?

If you have not applied color coding, there is no color column.

Color coding, clear all colors, and the column disappears. See P 53 in the Companion Guide, under the Help tab.

I guess you are using a computer manufactored by Dell?
There is a compatibility issue between Family Tree Maker 2017 (Version 23.1 and 23.2) and older versions of "Dell Backup and Recovery" applications which leads to crashes in case a file save or open dialog is shown.
Solution to resolve this issue:
You may uninstall "Dell Backup and Recovery" to fix your FTM crash issues. Only particularly old versions of the tool were having such an issue - any Dell Backup and Recovery applications of version 1.8.2 (or higher) will have it fixed by Dell. If you need to re-install this tool, here's the download link for the latest version (1.9.2.8) from their website: https://www.dell.com/support/home/ua/en/enbsdt1/Drivers/Driv...
With it installed, Family Tree Maker should still be working normally.

I just installed FTM 2012 and I'm having the exact same issue. Whenever I try to open the options tab under tools, FTM crashes. I looked at the event viewer and it has something to do with the rpc server being unavailable. A fix would be nice. Maybe the fix would be to go back to FTM 2010 and not waste my money on anymore FTM products.

I tried your suggestion and the color column remains, without colors, of course.

For whatever reason, when Saving a Filtered Individuals list for future use, the Color column is automatically created even if no color is selected. I'm going to report this to FTM. Thanks.

I tested on 3 different trees before responding to you.

Your filter may be the issue, not the color coding option.

Neither case applies.
Other siblings with the same length first name and same surname have their names displayed in full.

I was actually referring to the following problem -
Does anyone know why some of the names in the tree view only show an initial for the first name while others are spelled out?
