Well, I have come to the conclusion that Family Tree Maker 2012 and Ancestry.com are not compatible.
Six days short of my renewal to Ancestry, I made the decision to not renew my subscription. Although Ancestry is still the top site to any Genealogist.
Along with Family Tree Maker 2012 being the worst upgrade that has come from them yet, it has been a complete waste of time to me. I have never be so frustrated with a computer program. The sync being the number one problem for me, then came the constant delay or program freeze ups, the tiny media processing bar that never finishes its process. I have deleted my Ancestry Tree three times now, reinstalling the FTM program twice, and waiting for nothing to happen.
Contacting FTM via email is worthless. Don't get me wrong but, I serious think that they do not read the emails. All of the reply's that I have receive do not pertain to my questions. Most likely they are computer generated. I have gotten no where with calling support either except for two weeks ago, one rep told me that they are having issues and told me it was not my computer but theirs and that the developers were working on the problem and to give them time to work this out. Don't waste your time sending emails to them, Call instead and talk to the support reps. I think that if they are overwhelmed with complaints, that they will move a little faster fixing the program.
My online tree with Ancestry has copied all of my tree from FTW without any problems, but now it has been two weeks since the last upload and the media processing is still processing. I have 38,157 persons, 4012 media files which about half are processed and appear in the ancestry tree and the rest appear with the date of uploading, but no image. I have also had the problem of my media being placed in the wrong category, example: obituary's being placed in the Story category instead of obituary's. Then when a visitor see's this story, they send me an email asking if they can read the story. I then have to explain that it is a problem with FTM and Ancestry.com. This cannot be a good example to sell their products. I also have been plagued by FTM asking me to log onto Ancestry many times when in fact I am already logged on. Many problems which need to be repaired now. Being a programmer, I know what it is like to get to the program and repair it without causing a program some where else within the program. Their support programmer people are smarter then I am, so please hope for a fix very soon.
Several years back FTW had a big program with their update. Thanks to reading reviews online, I did not upgrade for several years, making sure that this program was fixed. Sometimes I think that Ancestry and FTM do not care or realize all of the time we have invested in building our trees, then with one upgrade or update, our trees becomes unreliable. With so many people in our trees, it is impossible to figure out if it is correct or incorrect. With me, I have spent about twenty five years building my tree and sometimes wonder what has been changed or unchanged by this upgrade to FTM 2012. Twenty five years of research can really be changed by one upgrade. This does not sit well with me.
