“*******"4- I OCR the resulting total document so it is searchable"*****
This I don't understand. Why not just copy the contents of the MS documents to a FTM Text document (Smart Store)”
My media files “contain” PDF documents that are linked to my PC File which has a PDF OCR’d documents in it. The reason I put PDF documents in my PC file is that the format is better and the total document is PDF ---- which originally was made up of a combination of MS Word text (delineating the proof) and JPEG which are the images I have found/used to help explain/back up the proof – I then make the resultant Total PDF document searchable just in case I want to search it
You probably could do as you say except possibly your “Proof” document contains both text and JPEG’s and I am not sure how the Smart Story would handle the JPEG portion
Do you use the attached media file as the source, ie it probably has many references?
As I previously said the TOTAL PDF file contains Text and JPEGs. The information from the JPEGS was originally sourced and had source attributes created when I found the records
The only new FTM 2012 data base information (sources/attributes) added are those that come from the proof/text portion of the document [In one of my proof documents I have over 250 pages of proof and 25 Image/JPEG attachments backing up that proof. I only have one source for this total document and one source attribute. The Source Title is [in shortened form] “John Jones is really Jack Smith” and my attribute says something to the effect that “in the 250 page proof document it has been proven that John Jones is really Jack Smith” [your statement here is exactly what I meant in this entire paragraph --- “In the original summary I include complete references and images of the portion of the document that is applicable to my discussion.”]
Just one additional thought on this last paragraph is that I include the JPEGS as “attachments to the Text Proof” so that the reader doesn’t have to search all over to find/read/understand the back up references [JPEGs] I am making
