I can only guess you are apparently looking at:

File > Backup
Not
File > Export

File Backup only has one option: ftmb
File Export has all the various options I previously described, including gedcom and NOT including .ftmb

You are using Windows and not Mac, right?
Are you clicking on the down arrow in the upper right of the Export dialog box that gives you the choices, including gedcom?
