Places listing and sync

I am getting totally confused as to how to handle Places in FTM Mac2 synced with ancestry.com.

I Resolved or Ignored the Places important to me in FTM. I used the standard place listing wherever possible, and customized the pin location at times. Other times, I said Ignore and defined the name and location. When it got synced, some of the Places info, I think those customized and/or ignored, got lost and the online version is asking me to define the unknown location, even though it has been defined in FTM. If I then customize the location in the online tree, sometimes it is saved, but sometimes not. In addition, other people sharing that location for a fact are not updated in the online.

What is synced and what isn't?

And specifically, I was listing a cemetery as a custom defined location, and that really seemed to mess me up. Should I be listing it using the city/county/state/USA in the database, and then have the cemetery as the Description [which I do see how to change]? While all of that shows in the detailed views, I kind of liked seeing the cemetery name in the Places list.
