Re: User Interface speed of FTM 2012

There is one user option that can effect speed. That is at:

Tools > Options > Dates & Places tab > Index options

Particularly the option to use the married name for females.

I leave my "aka" option as middle name and have gotten used to it. I supposed an extra entry for "akas" would slow FTM down a bit more - depending on how many "akas" you have.

I am not aware of other user options that have much impact on speed.

I have about 60,000 people and cuss at ftm for its lack of speed at times. It would appear that most of the time FTM trying to redraw the screen and slowness is not a database issue - but I am not an expert.

A lot will depend on what your computer is doing "under the hood" at various times of the day. This morning it was taking about 15-20 seconds just to add a blank fact line to the person tab - an eternity when you are in a hurry. This afternoon, I'm back to normal - almost instantly getting a new fact. Maybe it was antivirus or Carbonite or who knows what - but my speed seems to come and go during the day and even from one day to the next.

One age-old suggestion is to reboot your machine. Windows supposedly cleaned up its memory problems and so maybe it's phsychological, but my machine usually seems to run better after a restart.

Another point. I have a bad habit of opening tabs in Chrome (or whatever browser) and leaving them open. Before I know it, I have 20-25 tabs open in my browser. That can draw down on speed.
