It's not you, there's a bug in FTM 2017.
A number of people report experiencing the same problem, usually it involves merging data to 'shared' facts eg a marriage.
I've not paid sufficient attention to how/when the problem occurs but thinking back I have a feeling that merging data into an existing shared fact is a problem whereas merging data that will result in the creation of a new shared fact works ok.
I'm not aware of any work around for this issue but noting when it does occur may help you avoid it in future.
