The short answer is no.
Better to extract the media from the PDF file and insert it into FTM as media, and extract the text from the PDF file as text and insert it as notes, then you have full flexibility to exploit it in books.
You can of course link a PDF file into media in FTM but clicking on it will open Acrobat Reader (or whatever PDF reader that you use) to display the content.
But that of course is different from what you have requested.
