The real problem with _AKA is that it usually has no ability for distiguising the Surname from the Given Name. When you enter an AKA in FTM you get one field for the name so a person like Chen Pi where Chen is the Surname or Peter Vinette Lisbon where Vinette is the Surname can not be indexed.
At least with FTM and the NAME tag you can twist the name to place the Surname in the right spot for indexing even if it reads wrong.
