I have no way of knowing what the issue is. Clearly there is an issue - sometimes my files synch and sometimes they don't. I try to only use one or the other before I synch so that if it doesn't work I can unlink them, and redown- or up-load depending on which has the most current data. I've had to do this about 6 times. I've been using FTM2012 for about 3 weeks.
I prefer searching and adding data on ATM. Obviously there are benefits to using FTM2012 as well, especially when you are 40 years into your research and you have a lot of bits of data and you want to make charts and reports and merge duplicates, etc.
I'm not saying the software is awful and shouldn't be used - it has lots of good points too, the biggest of which is the ability to download the images, sources, citations, etc without having to hand input and link them. I recently converted from TMG8. They are both useful genealogy database software programs. The ability to link directly to Ancestry has furthered my research faster than any other change in the last 10 years.
Any database software has issues - that's why they always come with compact or reindex or validation 'features'. I'm just not willing to take a lot of time on the problem if there is a way to move forward. Like most people, I'd rather do research.
