My goal was never to show you a source with source media but with no citation. I showed you (1) that links appear to the source from the media workspace and (2) that this particular source has two citations and (3) that this source has a media file attached. That file is attached to the source. Each citation has its own separate file attached to it.
The sources without citations you referenced were created for future use. I took one of them and added a media file to it. Nothing changes from the Sources workspace. I do not have any phantom citations. You have that because of the way you're creating your sources through source citations.
When I edit the citation-less source, I see the media file there. I'm not sure what you're doing wrong that you can't replicate this.
