I to have the same problem. I currently have over 39 thousand people in my FTM index. Today I spent two hours adding five obit, which were short obits, but as I added each fact, the program freezes up for about three minutes. Tech support told me that the program will get slower as my tree gets larger. Well this is not correct, It is a problem with the FTW program. This has been going on with me for months.
I went to the internet to see which Genealogy programs ranked the Best and to my surprise Family Tree Maker was #1. My ranking would put it dead last. Just who are the ones who ranked this?? First I had programs with the snyc process and then many facts in my tree became ghost facts appearing sometimes but not all of the time. I contacted support more times then I can remember thinking that in time they would get this problem straightened out, which they did after many months.
Now FTM has this hang/freeze up problem. Does the Tech Support read any of these messages on this site, and if so, when will they own up to this program and fix it. I am a long time member of Ancestry and have used Family Tree Maker from the day one of my Genealogy work.
With these programs, I am very upset with the outcome of FTW 2012 and the update that follow. I have put almost 30 years of building my Family Tree and have to wonder if FTW is the way to go. It is nice to be able to snyc FTW with Ancestry, but absolutely not worth the effort and constant worry how this program might change my tree permanently. I simply would like to know how much time goes into Research and Development and the amount of time these updates are tested before release. I have trusted FTM for many years now but this last year has been a long roller coaster ride frustrating me to the max. If the tech members read these messages they would know that they have a problem and should come public telling us that they have a problem and to bare them. This FTM/Ancestry Program is Horrible and must be repaired thru an update to fix the problem, but until then I recommend everyone with this problem to sound out and backup your work daily.
