As for step-children, I have a fairly unusual part of my close family where my mother had a half-brother and a half-sister, who were hence step-siblings. However, they married each other so their daughter shares my grand-mother and grand-father, but not their earlier spouses. FTM finds this particular bit of tree very difficult.
