When I'm working I always attach media to a citation, never the source directly. I may have attached media to the source itself when I was just starting out but soon discovered that wasn't what I wanted.
I just thought I would see what FTM did for the purposes of this discussion.
I added media to the source as I said in my previous post and then tried to find what happened to the media. I went to the media workspace, brought up that media item in detail and the Links section said it was linked to the source itself. FTM knows it is added to the source and didn't need a citation.
So you can definitely link the media to a source, whether you have a citation or not, although for the life of me I can't see what good it does you.
