Wow, this thread REALLY got off topic fast. Back to the original problem: That even though citation images are correctly linked to their sources in your tree on Ancestry.com, in Family Tree Maker the wrong census images are linked to sources.
Well, it's September 2012 and I'm experiencing the same thing. I'm in Family Tree Maker, double-click on a census image, and it's the wrong image. I tried the CTRL-F5 (undocumented trick you have to find out about online) to re-download all media, but the problem remained. My next step will be to manually delete all the census images in my computer's Family Tree Maker media folder, and then use CTRL-F5 to re-download all the census images.
I think the problem may be due to how Family Tree Maker names census images when it downloads them to your computer it names them things such as "1860 United States Federal Census-1.jpg" and "...-2.jpg" and so forth. So these are not "permalinks", as the 12th image from the 1910 census in your tree might be different than the 12th image from the 1910 census in your tree. So the problem comes when Family Tree Maker goofs up which image goes with which source citation on your computer.
What I'm finding is that even though the incorrect images are linked to sources, the image that displays is still a valid image for my tree - it's just the record from the same census for a different individual in my tree.
So I'll first back up everything, and then try the aforementioned strategy, deleting all the census media in my computer's Family Tree Maker media folder. These are easy to identify because they are the first to show up in the folder, because the filename begins with the census year ("1910 United States Census Image-23.jpg").
Then after deleting them, I will re-sync and then re-download all the census images from Ancestry.com from scratch using the Ctrl-F5 trick while on the media page in Family Tree Maker 2012. I will select the "download missing" option rather than the "download all" option, because when you have over 1000 media items, downloading everything takes hours.
