I have noticed that the relationship calculator in both FTM 12 and the online trees does not identify people who are siblings as my direct line ancestors. That is, it identifies one, sometimes two, sibs as my nth GGPs, but then one of them, sometimes two of them, as my nth GGAunt/uncle. This is even if the person's spouse, parent, and child are correctly id'ed as GGPs. Moreover, in FTM, although it identifies more relationships than the online calculator, it will not allow me to select the GGP ID over the GGA/U relationship. Even more strangely, if I switch around my name with the person's name it identifies me as, eg., her nth GGchild, but it will NOT identify her as my nth GGM when I reverse it. Sometimes the problem seems to be that the numbering of the generations is different for different siblings; ie., one sib may be my 9th GGP and the other may be my 10th or 11th GGP. Does anyone have a workaround for this in FTM? A way to get the direct line relationship to be the one that is displayed? Thanks for any tips. M. Zashin
