I don't have my Windows machine powered up right now, but the key to this is to enlarge the "Box Size" on the report. On the Pedigree Chart Options, click the Box & Line Styles icon (three parallel lines, should be the 3rd icon under Pedigree Chart Options). There is a setting in there regarding "minimum box size" or something close to that - play with the value until it looks the way you want.
Also in the "Items to Include" page (first icon under Options) you can select Birth, and make sure you're using Abbreviated fact label (or none)
Lastly, in the main Items to Include page you can check "Display user-defined short place name" then you can go into Places workspace and put in shorter names (e.g. instead of "Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA" I use "Chicago"; instead of "Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, USA" I use "Franklin, IN")
