Sorting out a list

I there a way to esily sort out people that you only have a name for or those certain people you have researched back to a certain date and now you want to work on them to get more detail. I know there is a tool, but now Ican't find it and as well it was a tedious processs to go through 1400 people to get the people I wanted on the list
