"When you find yourself tempted to do so, shut down your computer and go take a walk. Hopefully, by the time you return, good sense will again prevail."
And if you still think that the information meets your standards of good/reliable/well source information, then you should include it in your database. But the caution here is DONT MERGE. I would (and do)
1) add a REPOsitory titled Ancestry.com completing all of the information about ACOM. (NOTE: I wish FTM included a URL as found in GEDCOM)
2) Then create a SOURce title for the family tree you found the information in completing field describing the source and connect it to the REPOsitory using the SOURCE_REPOSITORY CALN value. (Here I place the URL for the main page of the web source).
3) Add a NOTE to the SOURce noting that the general value of the source (i.e. "Well documented", "Undocumented", "Needs additional vetting".)
4) Then create a SOURCE_CITATION that connects the fact (each fact) that you are copying with a PAGE (citation location) that is a URL that points to the exact location of the page on the web where you find the information. I would also add in the Source_Citation Notes the date I found the data.
5)Then add a QUAY or quality of data value to the source_citation that denotes the actual quality (3 = Primary, 2 = Secondary, 1 = Questionable, 0 = Unreliable)
6) Take screen shots of the Website or Trees space "home page" and add them as media for the SOURce.
7) Take a screen shot of the data that you are citing with their source_citation information and add it as media to your own Source_Citation.
All of these things are what you should be doing already for any other source use in your DB so this this already be SOP!!
