FTM 2012 is freely available in Australia (where I live as well).
Victorian GUM Inc (VicGUM) sell it in an upgrade or retail packs that include Ancestry.com.au subscriptions bundled with the software see http://www.vicgum.asn.au/software.html.
The big advantage of buying from GUM is that It offers free internet/phone support as well as running numerous FTM workshops user groups etc
http://www.vicgum.asn.au/. You won’t get that from Harvey Norman ☺
FTM 2012 will read your FTM 11 data including media in your scrapbook and convert it without retyping. You can leave your FTM 11 on your computer as well if you like.
Because FTM 2012 has a description field, (not available in FTM 11), you will end up resolving place names, which is a once off exercise and well worth doing to use the Places workspace that exploits Bing maps
You may find this link useful to give you an idea of the changes

These tutorials are also built in to FTM 2012
