update: I didn't know something 4 days ago that I've only learnt tonight, and as such, what tulrose suggested about north riding now makes more sense, even though it made no sense at all at the time. Why put in the place name of somewhere else entirely? If someone had mentioned that North Yorkshire had changed it's name, then I would have been far more accepting and a lot quicker to understand.
Just a friendly reminder: remember that research is done worldwide and that not everyone has a good knowledge of other countries geographical areas (if any real knowledge at all), and so when another person comes along and says they haven't tried something because it's not the right place name, maybe education on the change of name over time is more appropriate than accusing them of being like a 3yo kid.
