I see what you're saying. I just object to the prior poster inferring I should be ashamed of myself for offering how I handle different situations with place names.
I also am asking FTM to improve it.
For example, my favorite pet peeve is not having 5 part place names in the PNA for villages and hamlets in New York state and neighborhood names in large cities, like, for example, Venice in the city of Los Angeles, or Marina del Rey, inside the ocunty of Los Angeles, but outside the city.
See the places within the Town of Southold, Suffolk, NY (on Long Island), where people actually live: Islands, hamlets, villges, CDP's, and "other communities", here:

In the meantime, I don't care what the PNA shows, I continue to enter these places with five parts, eg
Peconic, Southold, Suffolk, New York, USA
Thanks to the new capabilities of FTM2012, this name can now be resolved and entered into the heirarchical view.
