I agree with your comments. I do not want to create a data set that has the potential to be rubbish and cause more problems in the future. I refuse to work around an issue that should be fixed by Ancestry.
Three months ago I sent in 150 place names that I had researched and found to be valid place names to Ancestry for inclusion in the Place Name Authority. It took me several hours to research and compile the evidence for Ancestry. I have not received a response and they are still not in the Place Name Authority. I have emailed them again today; I will see what response I get this time.
It is very frustrating trying to get Ancestry to do anything. I will continue to email them requesting they do something. I get the feeling that customer service is number 10 and money is number 1 for Ancestry.
I am also concerned that silverfox3280 and johndd189 even think suggest work arounds. Can't they see the issues that will arise in the future?. I would like to know their thoughts about Ancestry fixing the issue. Are they also so frustrated with Ancestry they give in to compromise?
As I stated in my previous email, all valid place names the do not appear in the Place Name Authority must be forwarded to Family Tree Maker via this link http://ancestry.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_er4cyPjj5BJKIZf so that they can be added to it.
User need to keep persisting until Ancestry commit to regular updates of the Place Names Authority. If everyone with the issue, and I am sure there are many, does this Ancestry might get the message.
