Multiple Trees question

Hi,

I'm a fairly basic user, and therefore have a basic question. Should I create a separate tree for my family and my wife's family?

If I do, can I link the two trees, or just list each of us in each others tree file?

I understand that it probably makes sense to have separate trees for running reports, etc., but would really like a calendar report for both families, which is making me pose the question.

Any help/advice appreciated.
