It's very strange - my FTM searches do seem to work OK, and unlike you I don't get the "zero good matches" message, even with all four boxes ticked. The only way for me to get that message is to tick the "Match all terms exactly" check-box, which is what I would expect.
However, as has been reported in other threads, even though I get plenty of results even when all four check-boxes are ticked, the left-hand "All categories" list is empty. I have to untick "Family Trees" in the search for the categories to appear correctly. Otherwise, as well as not seeing the categories listed at the left, clicking the large boxed "CATEGORIES" heading instead of "RECORDS" just gives me a blank area instead of the result categories and match counts.
All very weird. I hope the May maintenance work will fix this, but I'm not very optimistic :-(
