I've been having the same problem for some time and kept hoping it would clear up. I'm using FTM 2010, XP and Firefox. I finally opened a trouble ticket two days ago. I got a response today from Ancestry.com support and they suggested checking compatible browser, Javascript updates, Flash enabled etc. I went thru the motions and got no change. I installed FTM on a new box running Win7 and IE9 just to see if it was Windows version or browser related and got no improvement, same symptoms.
I reported all of this and I'm waiting for their reply. I believe it is a bug on their end because this used to work fine and I haven't changed anything with my setup.
