Marco,

We are one the same page regarding:

1) Portability
2) Accessibility
3) Repeatability
4) Retention

Portability: All Data, Information and Knowledge regarding our research must be retained in multiple formats to provide maximum portability. I'm a big proponent of maximizing the current GEDCOM standard and the proper enhancement of the standard going forward. Independently GEDCOM, Computers, Paper, Books are not enough. We should use as many varied forms of data, information, and knowledge storage that we can.

Accessibility: This has many of the same components as portability with the additional point that what you do should be regularly shared with others, and the data, information and knowledge generated should be shared via multiple vehicles, libraries, online, books, videos, verbal stories your tell others.

Repeatability: You should be able to leave enough breadcrumbs behind so that anyone can follow your path to the same conclusion and agree with that conclusion. A list of names in your family tree has less value to future readers if they can't see how and why you got to the end of your research.

Retention: Accessibility lists many of the ways to retain your work, but your work needs to be in a form (pick several) so that the retention period can be seen as infinite.
