I have not bothered to go back to try again. The 60page doc I was printing halted at 40 which is where smart story was placed. I thought I must have just forgotten to reset it as you mentioned but nope.
I did have a gent who was tech with ancestry and was convinced I was wrong. So he went away and came back next day admitting he too found it impossible to reset that component of the book tool and yes he admitted it printed fine on US legal when he reset as I had to default to A4 it wouldn't.
He said he would let the right folk in ancestry/familytree maker know that there was a problem. I was shitty because I could not skip that portion of the report either for while it printed out it printed page numbers to match having the smart story in it, lol.
Easy to laugh now but it was hair pulling time at the time especially as I was so proud of Family Tree maker and fact the compilation of book was easier than expected.
I am told that 2012 defaults to printer settings but this time I think i will do a test run on a very very small family book.
