I am not sure if this feature is supported in FTM for Mac even although it is in the Windows version from I think FTM 2011?

FTM for Mac2 (for reasons best known to Ancestry.com) is essentially FTM 2010 with TreeSync and Blended Families.

So it might be that the feature to import the description metadata is not supported in FTM for Mac.

I wish that Ancestry.com would bring the Mac version up to the same standard as FTM 2012, but that is another story.
