Re: Alternate Place Names - Proper Documentation

A question related to the FTM 2012 Places data base

For a particular Fact Name [say, for example, Death] I can enter data in three “Fields”

1- The Date Field
2- The Place Field
3- The Description Field

Suppose I have entered data in all three of these fields and suppose it reads as follows
Date = Date A
Place = Town B, County C, State D, USA
Description = Died in the County Hospital Z in Town B, County C, State D, USA

Now suppose the above Place Data has been resolved by the FTM system, and I have a little check mark to prove it was resolved

Now suppose the political powers that be change County C to County D

*Now suppose the FTM Place Data Base is updated by whoever updates it and suppose they find and change County C to County D

Now what happens next?

A- Do they unilaterally change my data from County C to County D and resolve it? If they do this they are changing my data without my knowing it and also my Description Field will probably still reflect County C

B- Do they not change my data and still leave it resolved? If so I am running along fat dumb and happy thinking that the place is still County C, not knowing it has actually changed to County D

C- Do they not change my data and somehow flag it and tell me that the place that used to be resolved is no longer resolved because County C has changed to County D and I need to relook at it.

*Suppose the FTM Place Data Base is updated by whoever updates it and suppose they DON’T find and don’t change County C to County D. Again, here if this happens I am running along fat dumb and happy thinking that the place is still County C, not knowing it has actually changed to County D.

Does anybody know what happens in the situations I have outlined here?
