Confused about notes

Newbie question here... [Yes I looked in the help files.]

I imported a Legacy 7.5 database where individuals had both General notes and Research notes.

In FTM, when in the Family view, I see both sets of notes merged together in the Notes field displayed at right. This is good. Question: Is the notes field in FTM's right-hand pane what you call the "person notes"?

I ask because when I switch from the Family view to the Person view, the person notes are bank. If I type in some new person notes, then switch back to the Family view, my new person notes are prepended to the notes that were imported from Legacy.

Why are the notes from the Legacy import not displaying when I am in the Person view?
