User Interface speed of FTM 2012

I am a Legacy user (since version 3) who installed FTM for the first time. The antiquated user interface that Legacy is burdened with has just driven me to distraction, so I thought I'd try FTM. I like the FTM interface very much, but even in offline mode, the slow speed of switching screens is really causing me doubts. Are there any tunables I can set that can have an impact. I'm only using half my system's available memory, so that's not the issue.
