As for answering your original question, I thought I had done that. I don't object to the paternal line by paternal line of each mother in an ancestry, as the chart in your link shows. I don't really need the numbers, though. I'd prefer the numbers be an option. In fact, this approach parellels annual enhancement requests I've made to FTM for a line by line ancestral report in addition to the ahnentafel report that already exists.
With a quick look in Google Books, I found an example of a line by line approach to reporting on a person's ancestry by line - much preferable over an ahnentafel register report. An ahnentafel table would be a useful appendix, however.

Note that each chapter is a line leading to bottom line female, who married into one of the other chapters. Each female in that line whose male ancestry is known has a separate chapter of her paternal line, etc.
