Well, I guess I still need more detail from you to determine if you're both merging records via FTM and Ancestry.com. There is the known bug I previously described, but it does not create more than one duplicate in my experience. If this is what is happening to you, I suggest that you document what is happening in detail and send that documentation to support@ancestry.com. If you are experiencing the same bug I've reported, the more people they hear from, the more likely they are to fix it.
You really need to scope out the files that are in your media folder and look for actual duplicate images. It's still not clear to me that you actually have duplicates.
